Holistic Healing
Holistic Health means that health is not only determined by physical factors but by emotional, mental and spiritual factors as well. It recognizes the interconnectedness between the body, mind and spirit of our well-being in influencing overall health and wellness.
No one factor is more important than the other. The focus is on the whole being rather than simply on the symptoms presenting at the time.
Many people, even practitioners themselves often have a limited view of holistic health. It is not simply treating an illness with a natural method, like using herbs instead of prescription drugs. It goes much further than just taking natural remedies.
Holistic health considers disease from a mental, emotional and spiritual perspective. Understanding that the majority of illnesses are psychosomatic (having a mind/body relationship) is also important.
To facilitate healing, a holistic practitioner learns one or numerous modalities for use when treating a client. A modality can be a method or an entire system of healing which can have ancient roots or are modern applications.
For the holistic practitioner modalities are like tools. Holistic health modalities include but are not limited to: Acupuncture, Acupressure, Ayurvedic Medicine, Registered Trademark Techniques like Felder Kreis, Biofeedback Training, Colonic or Colon Hydrotherapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Osteopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qigong, Rolfing, Myofascial Technique Release, Lymphatic Massage, Lomi Lomi, Traditional Thai Massage, Magnetic Field Therapy, Ear Candling, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Pranic Healing, Polarity Therapy, Flower Remedies, Aroma Therapy, Crystals, Sound Therapy and Color Therapy. Holistic Perspectives include:
- Perfect health is unattainable
- It is all right to be sick
- The body has innate healing abilities
- Agents of disease are not causes of disease
- Most illness is psychosomatic (having a mind/body relationship)
- Subtle manifestations or signs of illness and disease happen before ones that are more serious do. Therefore, the earlier we notice illness the easier it is to deal with
- Everybody is different
- Everybody has a weak point where health problems generally occur
- Blood is the principle carrier of healing energy (at a cellular level)
- Everybody has an aura which is several feet of invisible energy field around the body
- Disease enters the body 1st through the aura (indicated when a person experiences aches or pain that can=t be detected physically)
- Clients must be empowered to do their own healing, practitioners are only facilitators of healing
- Clients need to want their healing for themselves in order for healing to occur
